Security cameras

What is security camera? Do you know? I ask because at work we have one at the cafeteria. At first we didn’t have one but then some things gets stolen in the dressing room so they install security cameras everywhere. Well except the dressing room of course. I’ve seen a lot of security cameras inside restaurants, stores and companies. Do you think security cameras are important? Please let me know your opinions.
